■ 科目のねらい
All students have learnt, and forgotten, English for many years. One main aim of this course is to help students remember and produce that English, in easy situations which deal with everyday conversations and activities involving children.
■ 授業の概要
This course will cover two main aspects of English: 1) Everyday English conversation and 2) Teac
hing English to children
■ 達成目標・到達目標
@Students will be able to hold easy, understandable conversations in English.
AStudents will be able to understand a wide range of basic English vocabulary.
BStudents will be able to introduce and run an English activity for children.
CStudents will learn that English is a living language.
■ 単位認定の要件
To achieve a passing grade students must attend at least 2/3 of classes, complete class and homework and suc
cessfully give an end of term presentation.

期末レポート:30% 授業内提出物:20% 授業内試験:40% 授業内活動:10%

第1回  Introduction
  Outline of course and students responsibilites. Greetings

第2回  Greetings / TPR
  Simple greeting patterns / TPR (Total Physical Response) activity

第3回  TPR challenge
  Using the word list from week 2 to make various challenges.

第4回  Question patterns I
  ’Open’ and ’Closed’ question and answer patterns.

第5回  Questions II / Body parts
  ’Find someone who…’ quiz. Review of body parts vocabulary / song ’head, shoulders.’

第6回  Translating I / Numbers
  Conversation practice using a translator. Review of numbers and number games.

第7回  Translating II
  Translating Japanese children’s songs into English.

第8回  Drama 1
  Sample class. Drama prearation in groups

第9回  Drama 2
  Drama rehearsal and presentation

第10回  Pronunciation and animals
  Pronunciation trouble spots and tongue twisters. Animal names / cries and game.

第11回  Presentation explanation and preparation
  Explanation of presentation format, group formation and preparation.

第12回  Presentation I
  Each group presents a children’s English activity to the class. Activity and explanation must be in English. Accompanied by report.

第13回  Presentation II
  Each group presents a children’s English activity to the class. Activity and explanation must be in English. Accompanied by report.

第14回  Presentation III
  Each group presents a children’s English activity to the class. Activity and explanation must be in English. Accompanied by report.

第15回  Review
  Review of the course, conversations, games and songs.


■ 時間外学修
Students should review the previous class and prepare for short comprehension tests (30-60 mins).Preparation
and rehearsal time for presentations (3-5 hours)
■ 課題に対するフィードバック
Feeback will be both individual and group evaluation. Emphasis will be placed on self-evaluation.

All necessary materials will be handed out in class. Students should bring a file to keep handouts.
